We have a few competition results to report the results of. We won the Junior Section General Knowledge Quiz and the Company Section Table Tennis . Unfortunately our National Competitions are over for this year after we were eliminated from the Masterteam in round 2.

22 November, 2011
The new session is now well underway and we have had a number of events since the start of the new BB year back in September.

We have taken part in a few Battalion competitions. We won the Junior Section 5 A-Side and finished third in the Junior Section Olympiad. We finished third in the Company Section 5 A-Side and won the Company Section Darts.

We travelled to Hartlepool earlier this month for the first round of the National Masterteam Quiz. We won the round and qualified with 4th Hartlepool for the next round which will be held in January.

We have held out annual all night sponsored activity and we are in the process of collecting the funds raised from that event.
Our Annual Enrolment service was held on the 20th November and was led by the Chaplain Rev Andy Chislett-McDonald. There was an excellent turnout and we were well supported by the parents of the company.

As another year draws to a close with our annual camp now finished and all of our awards and badges presented by a former company captain Mr Jim Severs at our Annual Presentation of Awards we can look back on what has been a fantastic and busy year in the life of the 2nd Consett Company. We have taken part in National Competitions, reaching the final of one. We have hosted a National Final. We have presented 4 President's Badges and 1 Queen's Badge. We have travelled far and wide., visiting Hartlepool, Liverpool, Belfast, The Giant's Causeway, Carrick-a-Rede Bridge, London and Downing Street. It will be remembered by all involved as one of the most exciting and fulfilling years in the Company's history. As we head into the saummer break we are already planning what we will be doing next year and how we can widen the scope of what we do to involve more of the company. Now is not the time to sit back and rest on our laurels, we need to move forward and continue to make the 2nd Consett Company the best there is. Enjoy your summer and we look forward to seeing you all in September.

The Seniors have completed the Monopoly Challenge in London. We travelled to London on the weekend of July 1-3 and we spent two days walking around London visiting all the locations on the classic London Monopoly board. In addition to that we did a lot of sightseeing. We visited Parliament square, Buckingham Palace (where we saw the Changing of the Guard), Tower Bridge, St Paul's Cathedral and what was probably the highlight for everyone Downing Street. The full photo gallery is available here. There were so very tired seniors and officers at the end of the trip. Our thanks to the 4th London Company who kindly allowed us to stay in their HQ building for the weekend and our thanks to all who helped to raise the funds that aloowed us to go.

April 18, 2011
The company has just returned from Northern Ireland following the National Masterteam Final. The lads finished 5th overall in the competition which was hard fought and close all the way through. We enjoyed a fantastic trip to Northern Ireland where we visited the Giant’s Causeway and crossed Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge on the North Antrim Coast. We also enjoyed a tour of Belfast. We would like to thank everyone who has helped to make this trip possible and all our colleagues from Northern Ireland who offered terrific hospitality and helped to make this a truly memorable weekend. The Company Section lads have had a few events since the last news update. They have taken part in the Battalion Scripture Quiz which they won. They have also held a 12 hour sponsored monopoly marathon and coffee morning to raise funds to allow them to attempt the monopoly challenge in London.

On the 26th of February we took part in the England and Wales regional final of the National Masterteam quiz which was hosted by the 35th Liverpool. Six teams took part with the top two progressing to the National Final in Northern Ireland. We finished as winners of the regional final ahead of 2nd Bracknell. We now progress to the National Final. We are now looking forward to a trip to Larne on the 16th of April. Congratulations to all the lads who took part in the quiz, The hard work that they have put in was very evident from their performance.

February 18, 2011 - News Update
We have hosted two competitions since the last news update. The first was the Battalion Company Section Table Tennis. Three teams took part in the competition. We won the competition with Lanchester finishing as runners up and Delves Lane in third place.

The second competition that we hosted was the Battalion Junior Section Indoor Games. There were four companies at the competition with Lanchester finishing as winners. We finished as runners up with Delves Lane in third place and Blackhill in fourth.

January 25, 2011 - Battalion Company Section Wii 10 Pin Bowling
We hosted the first Battalion Wii 10 Pin Bowling Competition this week. There were three teams at what was a real fun night. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the night and the competition was excellent. We finished as winners with the highest total team score.

January 15, 2011 - National Masterteam - Round 2
We finally got our National Competitions underway, after a number of interruptions due to the weather, on Saturday the 15th. We travelled to the 8th Hartlepool for a second round tie in the National Masterteam Quiz. The team did fantastically well winning the round with 68.5 points well ahead of the 4th Hartlepool in second place. We are now waiting for the draw for the next round.

December 06, 2010 - News Update
It has been a steady start to the 2010/11 session. Our numbers are holding strong and we have a full and active programme for the lads. We have take part in the Junior Section Olympiad where we placed second and we hosted the Company/Senior Section Pool where we placed second. Our first round match in the National Quiz was a victim of the weather and we now look forward to taking part in the National Quiz on January the 15th. We will be travelling to Burton in Kendal on the 18th of December for out opening round match in the National Table Tennis.

Our Senior Section lads took part in the Geordie Monopoly Challenge, where they visited and had their photographs taken at each of the locations on the Newcastle and Gateshead Monopoly Board. The photos from that day is in our Gallery section.

We held our annual all nighter to raise money for company funds on the 29th November and despite the terrible weather we had an excellent turn out and a good night was had by all.

September 06, 2010 - New Session Begins
The new 2010/11 session has begun. It was great to see so many familiar faces return and great to welcome some new faces as well. We have a full year of activities planned and as usual you can keep track of what we are doing and when we are doing here right here (or by joining us on Facebook).

July 12, 2010 - Presentation of Awards
Our annual Presentation of Awards took place on July 12 at Consett Methodist Church. Mr Tom Moffatt was the Inspecting Officer for the night and he presented the boys with their awards. It was an excellent night and there was an excellent turn out both from the lads and the parents and supporters of lads and the company. We presented 3 Queen's and two President's Badges on the night. Have a look at our Gallery page to see the photographs of the lads on the night.

June 22, 2010 - Battalion Drill Competitions
After a quiet period of time for the company with regard to competitions, things picked up again as we played host to the Battalion Basic and Ceremonial Drill Competitions. We retained the Battalion Colours in the Ceremonial Drill Competition and finished as runners up to Lanchester in the Basic Drill Competition.

February 27, 2010 - National Masterteam - Round 3
We hosted the third round of the National Masterteam competition. Teams travelled from Sutton in Ashfield, Haslington, Liverpool and Hartlepool for the competition. It was an excellent competition, closey fought all the way through. The final result was as follows :- 1st, 35th Liverpool (65.5 points). 2nd, 2nd Sutton-in-Ashfield (57.5 points). 3rd, 2nd Consett (57 points). 4th, 1st Haslington (54.5 points). 5th, 8th Hartlepool (35.5 points). We would like to congratulate 35th Liverpool and offer our best wishes for the final and we would like to thank Tom Moffatt who was questionmaster for the event.

February 9, 2010 - Battalion Junior Section Indoor Games
We hosted the Junior Section indoor games competition. There were four companies at the competition. It was an action packed night and the lads work very hard at the games. The final result saw Blackhill finish as winners and Delves Lane as runners up with Lanchester in third and us in fourth.

February 2, 2010 - Battalion Company & Senior Table Tennis
We hosted the Battalion Company and Section Table Tennis Competition. There were three companies in attendance. Everybody played everybody and the results were as follows. Lanchester beat Delves Lane 9-0, Consett beat Delves Lane 9-0 and Consett beat Lanchester 7-2. The overall result was Consett in first place, Lanchester in second place and Delves Lane in third.

January 30, 2010 - National Table Tennis - Round 2
We hosted the second round of the National Table Tennis Competition. We played 1st Burton in Kendal. Burton in Kendal won a one sided contest easily 9-0. We wish them the best of luck for the remainder of the competition.

January 16, 2010 - National Masterteam - Round 2
We travelled to 1st Morecambe and Heysham for the second round of the National Masterteam quiz. This was ajourney that had looked to be very unlikely the week before, but thankfully the cold weather released it's grip enough that we could make the trip safely. We made a great start to the competition taking the lead in round 1 and we then held that lead through every round of the competition. We finished as winners of the round and along with runners up the 8th Hartlepool we have qualified for the next round. We would like to thank 1st Morecambe for their excellent hospitality.

December 04, 2009 - National Table Tennis - Round 1
We travelled to 17th Teeside for the first round of the National Table Tennis. For some of the team it was thair first National Competition. They played fantastically on the night and finished as 8-1 winners. We now play the 1st Burton in Kendal in round 2.

December 02, 2009 - Battalion Company & Senior Section Pool
We hosted the Battalion Company & Senior Section Pool competiion. There were three companies in the competition, with 5 teams in total taking part. Lanchester won, with Delves Lane in second place and we were third.

November 28, 2009 - National Masterteam - Round 1
We travelled to the 8th Hartlepool for the first round of the National Masterteam Quiz. Despite not having had a full nights sleep our put in a great performance. The won the round and posted one of their highest points totals ever. We would like to thank the 8th Hartlepool for their excellent hospitality.

November 27, 2009 - All Nighter
The company held it's first fundraiser of the year on Friday the 27th. This was a return after a 12 month absence of the 12 hour all night activity night. The lads were sponsored to take part in a 12 hour (9pm - 9am) games night. The played Wii, table tennis, pool, cricket, uni-hoc, football, Warhammer and they watched movies. We will report on how much we have raised once the total is in.

November 10, 2009 - Battalion Company & Senior Section Darts
We played host to the Battalion for the Company and Senior Section Darts. Two companies took part in the competition with Lanchester entering two teams. We won the competition with Lanchester finishing in second and third.

November 08, 2009 - Enrolment Service
We held our annual enrolment service at Consett Methodist Church. We had an excellent turnout from the lads and it was a good night all round. Our new Company Chaplain, Rev Andy Chislett-McDonald, led the service. It was also announced at the service that the company has raised £1003 from our sponsored walk in June 2009. At that event we pledged to raise as many £125 donations for children's charities as possible to celebrate 125 years of the Boys' Brigade. The following charities will be receiving a donation from 2nd Consett of £125. Rainbow Trust (Northern Office), Children's Heart Unit Fund, Childline Newcastle, The Toby Henderson Trust, Contact a Family North East, RNIB, Hands for Tilley and Integrating Children. It is our hope that this will be an annual event and that we can at least match the 8 donations that we have made this year. Thanks to all who have supported the company in this venture.

September 26, 2009
The new session has begun and we have had a good start with all of last years lads returning along with one or two new faces. We have had our first event of the year, our annual coffee morning. There was an excellent turn out and fantastic support from parents and friends. We raised £115 at the coffee morning. A big thank you to all who were involved.

July 13, 2009 - Annual Presentation of Awards
We held our annual Presentation of Awards at Consett Methodist Church. All of the badges that the lads had achieved over the year presented along with various individual trophies. This year saw us presenting 1 President's Badge and 2 Queen's Badges. For a full list of award winners please see the Roll of Honour in the history section. The inspecting officer on the night was Rev Steven Dallin. Rev Dallin has has been our Company Chaplain since he took over as Minister of Consett Methodist Church 7 years ago. Rev Dallin is moving on to pastures new in August this year so this was his last Presentation of Awards night as Chaplain. July 10-12, 2009 - Annual Camp
We spent the weekend of the 10th - 12th of July at Broomley Grange for our annual camp. The theme for the camp this year was Robin Hood. We had 31 lads and 6 officers staying for the weekend. The lads enjoyed activities such as Manhunt, Archery, Climbing Wall, Assault Course, Zip Wire, Nightlining, Gutterball, Orienteering as well as various other games and activities. The weather was excellent with glorious sunshine on the Saturday and only a very brief shower of rain on the Sunday. The photographs from camp can be viewed from the Gallery section of the website.

June 27, 2009 - Sponsored Walk
As a part of the Boys' Brigade's 125th Anniversary celebrations a special badge is offered to any lad who completes 125 minutes of community service. For our community service we decided to raise money for children's charities. We are hoping to donate £125 to as many children's charities as possible. We completed our sponsored walk along the Lanchester Valley Walk on the 27th of June. We are now collecting the sponsor money in. Full details of how much was raised and who the donations will be made to will appear here.

June 19, 2009 - Battalion Junior Section Field Day
Lanchester hosted the Junior Section Field Day. Three companies took part with the final result being 1st Lanchester, 2nd Delves Lane and 3rd Consett

June 9, 2009 - Battalion Junior Section 7 A-Side
Lanchester hosted the Junior Section 7 A-Side competition. Three companies took part and the final result was 1st Lanchester, 2nd Delves Lane and 3rd Consett.

May 19, 2009 - Battalion Cross Country
Lanchester hosted the Battalion Cross Country at St Bede's School. There were four companies competing in the competition. The final results were as follows. Junior Section - 1st Lanchester, 2nd Consett, 3rd Delves Lane and 4th Catchgate. Company & Senior Section - 1st Consett, 2nd Lanchester and 3rd Delves Lane. The overall result was 1st Consett, 2nd Lanchester, 3rd Delves Lane and 4th Catchgate.

May 12, 2009 - Battalion Company & Senior Section Colour Drill
We were the hosts and only competitor in the Battalion Company & Senior Section Drill Competition. We carried out the set movements for the inspecting officer Tommy Murphy of Consett ATC. We scored 83 points out of 100.

April 27, 2009 - Battalion Junior Section Uni-Hoc
We travelled to Lanchester for the Junior Section Uni-Hoc competition. Three companies took part in the competiton. The final result was 1st Lanchester, 2nd Delves Lane and 3rd Consett.

April 27, 2009 - Battalion Company & Senior Section Basic Drill
We played host to the Basic Drill Competition. Tommy Murphy of Consett ATC acted as inspecting officer. There were two teams in the competition. We won the competition with Lanchester finishing as runners up.

March 26, 2009 - Battalion Company & Senior Section Scripture Quiz
Delves Lane played host to the Battalion Scripture Quiz for the Company and Senior Sections. Rev Les Nevin was the question master for the competition. It was an excellent quiz with all the the teams demonstrating the amount of preparation work that they had done. We won the competition with Delves Lane in second place and Lanchester third.

March 9, 2009 - Battalion Junior Section Scripture Quiz
We travelled to Delves Lane for the Junior Section Scripture Quiz. Three companies took part in a close competition. Lanchester finished as winners of the competition, we were runners up and Delves Lane were third.

March 3, 2009 - Battalion Company & Senior Section Table Tennis
We hosted the rearranged Table Tennis competition. Two teams took part in the competition. With Delves Lane beating us 5-4 to win the competition.

February 28, 2009 - National Masterteam Quiz - Semi Final
We travelled to the 4th Carlisle Company to take part in the semi final of the National Masterteam. The quiz was dominated by two teams throughout. The final result was 1st - 1st Haslington, 2nd - 2nd Sutton in Ashfield, 3rd - 35th Liverpool, 4th - 2nd Consett, 5th - 16th Liverpool and 6th - 4th Carlisle. We would like to take this opportunity to wish 1st Haslington the best of luck for the National Final. Many thanks to 4th Carlisle for their excellent hospitality.

Lanchester hosted the General Knowledge quiz. There were three teams in the competition. The final result was 1st Lanchester, 2nd Consett and 3rd Delves Lane

January 17, 2009 - National Masterteam Quiz : Round 2
We travelled to 1st Ormskirk for the second round of the competition. After 35th Liverpool made a blistering start to the quiz the battle for second place in the quiz was very close all the way through the competition. The final result was 35th Liverpool (59.5), 2nd Consett (44.5), 16th Liverpool (43), 4th Carlisle (39), 1st Ormskirk (38.5) and 1st Morecambe (24). After finishing in second place we now progress to the Semi Final of the competition. Many thanks to 1st Ormskirk for the excellent hospitality.

November 29, 2008 - National Masterteam Quiz : Round 1
We travelled to Teeside to take part in our first National Competition of the year. The quiz was very close all the way through until the last round. We were delighted to finish in second place, which was enough to see us into the next round. The final result was, 4th Carlisle 53 points, 2nd Consett 49.5 points, 17th Teeside 48.5 points, 2nd Scarborough 36.5 points and 4th Hartlepool 36 points. Thanks to 17th Teeside for their usual excellent hospitality.

November 25, 2008 - Company Section Pool
We played host to the Battalion Company Section Pool. There were 5 teams from 3 companies taking part. The competition went well with Lanchester finishing in first place, we were second and Delves Lane were third.

November 11, 2008 - Company Section Darts
The Battalion competitions have finally started after the unfortunate postponement of the first two competitions of the year. We played host to the Battalion Company Section Darts. There were three companies in the competition with a total of five teams. It was another good night of competition with Lanchester winning the competition and Consett finishing second and Delves Lane third.

November 9, 2008 - Enrolment Service
We held our annual enrolment service at Consett Methodist Church. We had an excellent turnout from the lads and it was a good night all round. All of the lads and officers were presented with gifts to commemorate the Boys' Brigade's 125th Anniversary. The Company Chaplain, Rev Steven Dallin, led the service.

September 8, 2008 - New session begins
We met for the first time after the summer break and it was nice to welcome some new faces along with the the regulars who returned. We are looking forward to a full and rewarding year ahead.

July 14, 2008 - Annual Presentation of Awards
We held our annual Presentation of Awards at Consett Methodist Church. All of the badges that the lads had achieved over the year presented along with various individual trophies. For a full list of award winners please see the Roll of Honour in the history section. The inspecting officer on the night was Rev Terry Hurst. Rev Hurst has recently been appointed as the Brigade Chaplain. We welcomed Rev Hurst not only as a Brigade Officer but as a friend, he was Minister of our Church and chaplain to 2nd Consett from 1985 until 1996.

June 10, 2008 - Battalion Ceremonial Drill
We hosted the Battalion Ceremonial Drill competition, the winners of which have the honour of carrying the Battalion Colours at the Founder's Day Service. Unfortunately we were the only company competing this year. We did, however, complete the moves laid down for the competition and were judged by a local ATC officer. We retain the colours for the coming session.

May 19, 2008 - Battalion Cross Country
Catchgate hosted the annual Battalion Cross Country competition once again this year. There was a pretty good turn out for the competition with four companies taking part. We won the Junior Section event and the Company Section competition was won by Delves Lane. We also won the overall event. The Full results are as follows :- Junior Section, 1st Consett, 2nd Delves Lane, 3rd Lanchester and 4th Catchgate. Company Section, 1st Delves Lane, 2nd Consett, 3rd Lanchester and 4th Catchgate.

May 15, 2008 - Battalion Junior Section 7 A-Side
We travelled to St Bede's school for the Junior 7 A-Side competition. The competition was won by 14th Lanchester with 17th Delves Lane in second place. We finished third.

April 12, 2008 - National Table Tennis Round 5
We played host to 1st Burton in Kendal in the 5th round of the National Table Tennis competition. We have played 1st Burton a number of times in the past and they have always proved to be too strong for us. Today was no exception. A very good Burton team won 9-0 and will now progress to the National Finals. We would like to wish them the best of luck in the final.

April 3, 2008 - Battalion Company Section Scripture Quiz
Delves Lane hosted the Battalion Company Section scripture quiz. The final result saw Lanchester finish as winners with us in second place. A good night was had by all. Andrew Murphy set and asked the questions for this competition.

March 15, 2008 - National Table Tennis Round 4
We travelled to the 4th Hartlepool for the 4th round of the National Table Tennis. In what was a well fought contest we finished the match as 6-3 winners. We now play 1st Burton in Kendal in the next round.

March 10, 2008 - Battalion Junior Section Scripture Quiz

We hosted the Battalion Junior Section Indoor Games competition. Four companies took part. It was a good competition and it stayed close until the very last game. Lanchester won the competition with Delves Lane second Blackhill third and Consett fourth.

February 9, 2008 - National Table Tennis Round 3
We played host to 2nd Scarborough for the third round of the National Table Tennis competition. The competition was well balanced and the result was not decided until the final games were concluded. We finished as winners (by a score of 5-4) of the round and we are now waiting to see who we play in round 4.

February 5, 2008 - Battalion Company Section Table Tennis
We played host to the Battalion for the Company Section Table Tennis competition. There we five teams representing three companies in the competition. After a long night of table tennis our A team finished as winners having won all of their games. Lanchester finished as runners up with Delves Lane in third place.

January 20, 2008 - National Competition Update
On the 19th of January we had a long and busy day as we took part in two National Competitions. We set off 9:30am with eleven lads and we headed to Wigan Soccer Dome for the National 5 A-Side (Jnr) which was hosted by 1st Ashton in Makerfield. The lads played well and gave everything they had to finished 3rd. Congratulations to 8th Hartlepool who won the group. We then set off from Wigan and made our way to Church where we would be taking part in the National Masterteam Round 2. After a closely fought competition we finished in fourth place with 35th Liverpool as the round winners. We would like to take this opportunity to thank our host at both competitions and to wish the qualifiers the best of luck for the next round.

January 11, 2008 - National 5 A-Side (Senior) Round 1
We travelled to Gateshead for the first round of the National 5 A-Side (Senior) competition. The contest was played in good spirit and after it was all over we finished in 3rd place on goals scored (having tied on points and goal difference with Hartlepool). Our thanks to Gateshead for hosting the event and best wishes to the teams who qualified for the next round.

December 24, 2007 - Bag Packing in Iceland
We spent three days in Iceland supermarket packing bags to raise money for company funds. Once again the generosity of the customers of Iceland has been overwhelming. We managed to raise £1305.85 over the three days. We would like to take this opportunity to thank firstly the customers of Iceland who gave so generously and secondly the management and staff of Iceland for allowing us to pack bags in the store during the Christmas period. Thanks you all.

December1, 2007 - National Masterteam Round 1
We took part in our first National Competition of the year at Hartlepool in the National Masterteam. We entered a young team and the excelled in the competition. We won the round with a score of 70 points (15 points more than the second placed team). We now await the draw for the next round.

November 20, 2007 - Battalion Company Section Pool
We played host to the Battalion once more for the Battalion 8 Ball Pool competition. Once again there were 5 teams representing 3 companies. We finished in first place with Lanchester in second and Delves Lane in third.

November 16, 2007 - Sponsored All Night Activities
We held our annual sponsored all nighter to raise money for company funds. We had an excellent turn out and he lads behaviour was excellent. The sponsor money has just started coming in and it looks to be very encouraging.

November 13, 2007 - Battalion Junior Section Olympiad
The 5th Blackhill hosted the Junior Section Olympiad. Four companies took part in the competition which was won by the hosts Blackhill. Consett finished in second, Lanchester third and Delves Lane in fourth.

November 11, 2007 Enrolment Service
We held our Annual Enrolment Service on the 11th of November. We saw an almost 100% turn out from the lads. It was a excellent evening with a number of presentations made. We presented 4 Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Awards and a number of NCOs were appointed.

November 6, 2007 - Battalion Company Section Darts
The first company and senior section competition took place at Consett and it was the Battalion Darts competition. There were three companies involved in the competition with two of the companies entering two teams. It was an excellent competition with Delves Lane finishing as winners, Consett as runners up with Lanchester in third

September 24, 2007 - Battalion Junior Section 5 A-Side
The first Battalion competition has taken place. Delves Lane hosted the Junior Section 5 A-Side competition. Unfortunately there were only three teams able to take part, but that did not stop the lads who were there from having a good night. The competition was won by Lanchester with Consett in second place and Delves Lane in third.

September 5, 2007 - 07/08 session starts
The new session has begun and we have had a promising start with regard to numbers. We have 12 Anchor Boys, 17 Juniors and 17 in the Company and Senior Sections. We have 3 lads starting work on their Queen's badge and 4 working towards their President's Badge. We are looking forward to a full and fun session.
